In 1985, after working several years as a legal secretary, Dawn Converse made a life-changing decision to leave the corporate world and become an entrepreneur. Dawn built Word Processing Unlimited from her home long before it was fashionable, primarily so she could remain at home with her children. A little ahead of her time, she was able to build a successful business based almost exclusively on referrals from clients. Her niche was providing administrative support and mailing services to business owners, sales executives and non-profit organizations.
In 1999, realizing referrals was the primary source for her steady business growth, and recognizing an opportunity for additional growth, Dawn joined the world’s largest business networking organization, BNI. She continues to be involved both as a member and a Director for the BNI chapters located throughout Baltimore where she trains and consults entrepreneurs and professionals on how to connect with one another and establish valuable business and personal relationships. The Baltimore region received the “Director Performance Evaluation” award for the years 2008, 2009 and 2010. In addition, Dawn received the “Givers Gain” award from the BNI Maryland CEO in 2010 for her collaboration with other networking organizations and community associations on behalf of BNI Maryland. That same year, Dawn released her book entitled How To Network for Business Growth: Tips That Work! which is available in both print and audio formats.
Over the years, Dawn has learned the significance of saying “thank you” for even the smallest things, and remembering and sharing important happenings in the lives of others. Dawn enjoys her recent association with the innovative company, SendOutCards, whose mission is to practice the art of “appreciation marketing” and share positive heartfelt written messages through personalized greeting cards. In January 2012, Dawn became a certified SendOutCards trainer.
Also, in January 2012, Dawn became Co-Founder of Network to Net-WealthTM, a mid-Atlantic business network and training organization whose mission is to educate and empower entrepreneurs and business professionals to think big, believe in themselves and take action to create their much-deserved success through strategic networking and being a giver to others.
A true believer in the importance of effective networking and communication, Dawn has mentored hundreds of business owners over the years on how to increase their business through qualified referrals and strategic connections. She encourages business owners to consistently and continually meet new people and take the time to grow reciprocal relationships with other business people instead of always just looking for the next sale. Dawn truly believes people tend to do business with and share referrals with people whom they know, like and trust, and that it takes time and effort to build those strong relationships. Relationships may begin with a “hello,” but they must be followed by a true desire to connect with someone and help that person grow.
